State Rep. Andrew Beeler, R-Port Huron, who serves on the House Committee on Tax Policy, today issued the following statement calling for lower taxes to help Michigan families:
“Michigan has a historic opportunity to roll back taxes for the families across our state who are feeling the painful effects of inflation.
“We shouldn’t wastefully spend the multibillion-dollar, taxpayer-funded surplus in our state coffers. That approach would only further inflate prices without providing real relief for the working families already paying more on the cost of everyday necessities. Nor should we primarily cut taxes simply for special interests.
“Now is the time to be forward-thinking and family-focused with comprehensive tax reform for the people of Michigan.”
Beeler’s statement comes following the Michigan Senate’s passage today of a tax reform plan providing both an individual income tax cut and a corporate tax cut.
“Gov. Whitmer handed out $1.7 billion dollars for the Marshall project because she was embarrassed for losing out on other Ford plants, and then her allies smeared local citizens who disagreed with her,” Beeler said. “Now, with Democrats’ anti-business, anti-worker agenda coming down the pike, Ford is slamming on the brakes.”
“Democrats are allowing for the most barbaric practices related to abortion, none of which the voters consented to in Proposal 3,” Beeler said. “Pro-life and pro-choice Michiganders support common-sense licensure, inspections, and reporting for abortion facilities, but this extreme legislation would eliminate these medical standards.”
“I’m disappointed to see the Democrat majority wasting their time trying to squeeze every last nickel and dime out of Michiganders — just so they can waste the money on unsustainable programs and unnecessary projects,” Beeler said.
“With her emphasis on wasteful spending and costly policies, the governor announced in no uncertain terms that Democrats will keep pushing for higher costs this fall,” said Beeler, R-Port Huron.
