Nikolai Zerkle will serve on Belding City Council for next 4 years

State Rep. Pat Outman had the unique opportunity to administer the oath of office for his legislative assistant who was elected to serve on the Belding City Council.

Zerkle, who has worked for Outman since March of 2024, said he is looking forward to serving his local community in this additional role. The two will continue to work together in the legislative office, as the job as a city councilman is part time.

“As a lifelong Belding resident, I’m honored to serve my friends and neighbors throughout our wonderful city,” Zerkle said. “The opportunity to serve as a legislative staffer while simultaneously being plugged in at the local level is a unique one, and I’m grateful for it. I look forward to doing my part to make Belding great again.”

Outman said he looks forward to having a Belding advocate right in his own legislative office.

“I myself began my career in public service working in a legislative office,” Outman said. “It’s a great first step in learning about what it takes to manage the needs of constituents. Nikolai has done so much to help our office and cares deeply about the needs of citizens. The people of Belding have an ally in him both on the city council and in the 91st House District office, I know he will continue to serve them well in this new role.”

The Belding City Council meets every first and third Tuesday of each month.
